Dklick: I believe you can use Fireworks 8. It's basically a few layers of masks and gradients anyway.

Joshua: with elliptical shapes, you can use the Ellipse gradient instead. This type of gradient has two handles so you can define the major and minor axes (A.K.A. the "long and short diameters") of the ellipse.

Your site's a great resource and I really enjoy the tutorials. How difficult would these faux 3d effects be to replicate on a skewed circle. Radial gradients work great if the object that you're giving this effect to is a perfect circle, but I'm having issues with oddly shaped logos or symbology. Ovals for instance are acting kind of screwy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!

Minikperi: Yes, you could use those neat plugins to produce a wide array of effects. Unfortunately, with the release of Fireworks CS3, the Alien Skin plugins that used to be bundled in the Live Effects are now gone. :( So for those who don't have the plugins available, this tutorial serves as an alternative.
